FS9, Nvidia & nHancer - Antialiasing working well

After some time i got it working now - it looks great and still is very performant. I installed the latest beta driver 169.28 and truely some things have changed in getting AA working in FS9 with nHancer and these newer drivers. This also seems to affect 169.21 drivers from Nvidia.

Here’s how you get proper AA using nHancer. First of all the important stuff as always: Before trying to install new drivers uninstall both, old NVidia drivers and nHancer. If any problems still occur after removing and rebooting some people report good results with CCleaner or DriverCleaner. You may want to test these in case you’re not able to fully remove the old drivers.

After that install the newest version of both (either the 169.21 official final or the 169.28 beta whichever fits most) and don’t even touch the nVidia drivers for AA settings and that stuff. Instead fire up nHancer and do the following steps:

  • deactivate the standard profile “MS FlightSimulator 2004″ (should work with FSX as well)
  • make a new profile (don’t duplicate the original one) and choose FS9.exe as the application for that profile.
  • check the box “Profile can be activated manually”
  • In the Enhancements Tab check “Anti-Aliasing” and set it to Supersampling and 4×4 (should be enough on 88xx cards - you may try other settings later. Also check “Gamma correction” and “Super-Transparency AA”. Important: Do not check “Enhance in-game AA-Settings”.
  • Switch on Anisotropic Filtering and set it to 4x as well - try more or less later if you need.
  • Vertical Sync should be checked and only switched on if you need it - otherwise leave it to “Off”
  • Go to the Optimizations tab an set Texture filtering to High Quality, Trilinear Optimization to OOff, Aniso. Sample Optimization also to Off and Negative LOD BIAS to Clamp. The other boxes should be left unchecked.
  • In the Compatibility Tab just switch on Anti-Aliasing compatibility and leave the value in the dropdown as is.

That’s it. Close nHancer, if not already done after nHancer installation, reboot your machine and start FS9. You should have great visuals. Let me know your results.

Hi there:
I have Asus Motherboard with InteL Core 2 Quad CPU, 3gb ram and Nvidia 8800 GTS 640gb ram and I’m having big problems with anti aliasing, I just did what you explained in there but it seems that it didn’t work. Do you know how I can fix it?
Thanks
