Big Data accident - Backup lost completely

Hey - long time not heard ;-)

Lot’s of work to do here and the summer also started yet. I’ve not been with flight sim or VATSIM during the last weeks. Just started reading some forums and news sites again these days. I was happy to see the Digital Aviation Fokker 70/100 was released some time ago. It was highly anticipated by the whole flight sim community.

George Carlin: Airline Announcements (Video)

Oh wow how great. I nearly loved my ass off during the last 20 minutes or so. George Carline must be really a great one. I didn’t know him until a Flightsim friend sent over these two videos a few minutes ago. George Carlin is making fun about some Airline Announcements and other stuff. Have fun listening while watching…

EGLL to EDDM - Performance: great!

As i wrote yesterday i did my first flight on the fresh setup yesterday and i’m totally blown about the performance. I’m also glad about the stability but as the flight only took a bit more than an hour it’s not worth talking about that yet.

The missing 2GB arrived

Today the postman delivered the missing 2GB of GeIL DDR2-800 Ram for the Flightsim box. They were quickly unpackaged and found their way into the slots on the Gigabyte P35-DS3 Mainboard.

FS9, Nvidia & nHancer - Antialiasing working well

After some time i got it working now - it looks great and still is very performant. I installed the latest beta driver 169.28 and truely some things have changed in getting AA working in FS9 with nHancer and these newer drivers. This also seems to affect 169.21 drivers from Nvidia.

Complete reinstallation

After yesterday’s dilemma i decided to do a complete reinstall of the Flightsim Machine. The Vista32 is still working but i decided to try a different approach as long as my FSX isn’t fully loaded with Addons and so takes a long time to reinstall.

Damn f*cking Windows…

Oh my god i’m totally screwed up. After reorganizing my Flightsim PC (i forgot to mention that besides Vista there’s still the old WinXP installation with FS9 running on that machine), uninstalling some software pieces and repartitioning to get lost from the old linux partitions on the drive my WinXP installation is totally broken.

My Flightsim Setup (Hardware Specs)

Ok, as promised in my last post i’ll post a bit of my current pc setup. That pc is for gaming only. Don’t worry i’m not really a millionaire - it’s just a lucky situation that bought me an iMac lately and i completey switched to apple for the working environment. The PC that powered my work so far now moved down the desk and is a dedicated gamer now.

2GB definitely not enough

Rumors say that depends on Vista but 2GB of Memory in your Vista PC are definitely not enough to fly with FSX in good conditions. I did some more testing today with FS Global 2008 and Ultimate Terrain X Europe installed and memory rapidly was sucked empty. That’s when the swapping action begins and your (S)ATA Drives have to be handled by all your hardware (PCI Bus, CPU and so on) and where you loose performance. Let’s hope that this is the primary reason for my performance shortage - i just ordered another 2GB for the FSX-Machine.

FSX Performance hard to beat

Hey this is my first blog post on this blog ;) Chapeu!
